Organization of the days
The after-school class team intends to make the stay at El Faro a fun and rewarding time. Therefore, they plan many workshops, games, activities, parties...and look after the children and help them during their stay in the El Faro after-school class.
The long days (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday) start the same way for all pupils: they first receive a snack. Then, according to age, the youngest children do some craft work, play games, read stories, dance..., while those in Primary and Secondary are encouraged by the monitors to do their homework and then enjoy some leisure time (craft work, free play, supervised games, reading, etc...).
The time for homework and reading is conceived, not as an extension of the school day, but as a time to study, according to each pupil’s responsibility. The role of the monitors in this regard is to provide children with the adequate environment, assistance and support to carry out their work and, most importantly, to help them develop a sense of responsibility and teach them that there is a time for obligations and a time for fun.
Wednesdays and Fridays are short school days, so the El Faro after-school service starts with lunch. The monitors actively participate in this daily activity of the pupils, supervising them, so that the time spent eating and snacking can be used to improve the children's eating habits and encourage appropriate behaviour.
During the school year there are several workshops and the days before of each activity, pupils work on the corresponding theme. These are all organized on Wednesdays, inside the school, and are included in the fees for those pupils who are normally enrolled for Wednesdays as well.
Workshops will be notified via e-mail. In some workshops, for reasons of internal organisation, parents must register their children via an online form that they will also receive via e-mail (in these cases, requests outside the registration period will not be accepted)
After lunch, the pupils who have extracurricular activities leave with the monitors of the company that manages these activities, while those who do not, stay in the El Faro after-school class. Once the extracurricular activities are over, the pupils return to the El Faro after-school class. These days are mainly intended for leisure and sports activities, offering the possibility of enjoying the fresh air and outdoor activities, but also to finish any craft work.
The extracurricular activities are managed by an external service and are fully compatible with our after-school service El Faro.
Children can stay in the after-school class El Faro until 18:30 and can be picked up by parents or authorised persons at any time during the afternoon.
